Memory (RAM): graph, shortages and upgrades
What the memory graph shows, why the server crashes with "Out of memory" and when it's time to upgrade.
What the graph shows
On the "Console" tab the "Memory" graph shows how much the server uses right now, not the limit. Java servers (Minecraft) reserve memory in advance, so for them it is normal to stay at around 80–90% of the limit.
"Out of memory" / Exit code 137
The server used more memory than your plan allows and the system stopped it. What to do:
- Remove heavy or unnecessary mods.
- Minecraft: if you added
-Xmxto the startup parameters yourself, it must be no more than about 85% of the plan's memory. For example, for 8 GB use-Xmx6800M. - Pre-generate the world in advance (Minecraft: the Chunky mod): generating new terrain uses the most memory.
- If the server keeps hitting the memory limit, upgrade it.
How to add memory
Dashboard → "My services" → the server → "Upgrade". You only pay the difference for the remainder of the paid period. The new memory is applied after the server restarts.
How much you need
| Game | Minimum | Comfortable |
|---|---|---|
| Minecraft without mods, up to 10 players | 3 GB | 4 GB |
| Minecraft with a 100+ mod pack | 6 GB | 8–12 GB |
| Valheim with mods | 4 GB | 6 GB |
| Project Zomboid | 4 GB | 6–8 GB |
| ARK, Rust, Palworld | 8 GB | 12–16 GB |
