Minecraft: first start and main settings

Connecting, operator (admin), whitelist, joining from unofficial launchers and the key server.properties settings.

Connecting

In Minecraft: Multiplayer → Add Server → the address from the panel together with the port, for example 203.0.113.10:25006. The player's game version must match the server version.

Becoming an admin (OP)

In the panel console, enter op YourName. To remove it: deop YourName.

Whitelist

  • Turn on: whitelist on
  • Add a player: whitelist add Name
  • Remove: whitelist remove Name

Joining from unofficial launchers

By default the server only lets in licensed accounts (the "Invalid session" error). To let everyone in: "Files" → server.properties → online-mode=false → restart.

With online-mode=false anyone can join under someone else's name. Install an authentication plugin (AuthMe for Paper) or enable the whitelist.

Key server.properties lines

ParameterWhat it does
motdDescription in the server list
max-playersSlots
difficultypeaceful, easy, normal, hard
gamemodesurvival, creative
pvptrue / false
view-distanceRender distance; 8–10 is optimal
level-seedSeed of a new world
server-portDon't change it: the port is set by the panel

Changes apply after a restart.

A new world

Stop the server, rename the world folder in "Files" (for example to world_old) and start it: a new world is created. For a new seed, set level-seed in server.properties before starting. To find out the seed of the current world, run seed in the console.

The server stops right after starting

If the console says "You need to agree to the EULA", open eula.txt and set eula=true.
