Lag and performance

How to tell whether the server or the internet is lagging, and what helps in each case.

Server or internet?

  • Everyone lags at the same time, items "teleport", mobs freeze: the server is under load.
  • One player lags while everyone else is fine: that player's internet or computer.
  • High ping for everyone from one region: the server location is far away (see the guide "Choosing a location and ping").

What helps the server

  1. Pre-generate the world. Generating new terrain is the heaviest operation. Minecraft: the Chunky mod → the commands chunky radius 2000, then chunky start.
  2. Optimisation mods (Minecraft): Fabric: Lithium, FerriteCore; Forge/NeoForge: ModernFix, FerriteCore. They only need to be on the server.
  3. View distance (Minecraft): view-distance=8, simulation-distance=6 in server.properties.
  4. Fewer automatic farms and mobs in one place.
  5. A daily scheduled restart clears accumulated memory.

If nothing helps, contact support: we will check the CPU load and, if needed, move the server to a less busy node.
