Project Zomboid: connecting, admin, version and moving your world
How to join, become an admin, why "the version doesn't match" and how to upload your own world.
Connecting
Join → enter the IP and port from the panel. The server password is in "Startup" (Server Password).
Admin
On the first start the panel creates an admin account with the password from "Startup" (Admin Password). Log in with it to give rights to your own name:
- in the panel console:
setaccesslevel "YourName" admin; - or in the game chat:
/setaccesslevel "YourName" admin.
"Server version doesn't match"
Steam updates the game for players automatically. The server updates on start if Auto Update = 1 in "Startup": just restart it.
A beta branch (for example, the unstable Build 42) is set in "Startup" → Beta ID. All players must be on the same branch: Steam → Project Zomboid → Properties → Betas.
A specific old version (for example, 42.20) that is no longer on Steam can't be installed: Steam doesn't distribute it, and players won't have it either.
Uploading your own world
- On your computer the world is in
C:\Users\Name\Zomboid\Saves\Multiplayer\ServerName(orSandbox\…for single player). - Stop the server. Upload the world folder over SFTP to
.cache/Saves/Multiplayer/. - The folder name must match the server name: the Server Name parameter in "Startup" (
pzserverby default). - Start the server.
Server settings
.cache/Server/ServerName.ini holds the main settings (PVP, slots, mods), ServerName_SandboxVars.lua the sandbox (zombies, loot, time). The "Mods and settings" section is more convenient.
