Project Zomboid: Steam Workshop mods
How to add a mod correctly (Workshop ID and Mod ID) and why the server doesn't see a mod.
Two identifiers
Every PZ mod has two, and you need both:
- Workshop ID: the number from the mod's Workshop link (
…filedetails/?id=2169435993→2169435993). - Mod ID: at the bottom of the mod description in the Workshop, the line
Mod ID: ModName.
Adding a mod
The easiest way is "Mods and settings" → Workshop: find the mod, click "Add", and the panel fills in both IDs itself.
Manually, in .cache/Server/ServerName.ini:
WorkshopItems=2169435993;2392709985
Mods=modoptions;tsarslib
Separated by semicolons, without spaces. Restart the server and it will download the mods.
Common problems
- The mod didn't load: the Mod ID doesn't match (letter case matters) or the mod was removed from the Workshop.
- The mod has several Mod IDs (variants): specify only the one you need.
- Order: put libraries (tsarslib, modoptions) first.
- Build 42: many mods are not yet updated for 42.x. If the server crashes after adding a mod, check in the Workshop whether it supports your version.
- Players don't need to install mods manually: the game downloads them when they join.
